This blog has been an idea I’ve had brewing for awhile now, and I am incredibly excited, thrilled and nervous all at once! Thank you to those who have encouraged me to dive on into this and who believe that I have even an ounce of capability to do so!
Why “The Common Counter”?
I love the idea of what a counter functions as – it has so many different purposes—it is a workspace, where things are created – a kitchen counter for chopping, rolling, and mixing; a workshop counter for nailing, drilling and painting; it is also a space where people gather around and come together – a bar for meeting at, drinking and eating on; it is a space where things are placed – car keys after a day’s journey, flowers fresh from the farmer’s market, coffee cups brought home after meeting up with a friend, contents from emptied pant pockets, with everything from movie stubs, to concert tickets, to business cards, and receipts. Our counter space is a place that tells so much about us and what our lives consist of. To make something “common” implies that it is open to or belongs to an entire community or the public. And I see this blog—this “Common Counter”—as a space where I can bring little pieces of my life to and share with you all. And if you can get even as much as an ounce of enjoyment from them as well, I’ll be that much happier myself.
Disclaimer >> Ok, I have a confession to make. Here it goes. I hate writing. I really do. I was that girl in school whose stomach turned at the thought of anything that involved me putting words cohesively onto paper and getting it critiqued. Dreaded book reports in elementary school and essays in junior and senior high, and 20-page papers in college felt like the end of the world. I, in no way, consider myself a writer, and have never done so. SO, this is HUGE people! I am being brave, sucking it up, and am devoting myself to something that involves ME + WRITING! It’s time to step out of my comfort zone and push myself. Wish me luck.
